about

At the time of this recording/broadcast James had been running sound for Pat Duncan's show for awhile. The shows James engineered are some of the best sounding live sets that were ever on Pat's show. When it came time for the Feu performance, James, didn't want the added stress of playing in the band and engineering the same show so he asked one of the other WFMU guys to do it. The band did a full sound check and the engineer was confident in the sounds he was hearing. He even reassured the band he had listened to their record prior and thought the sounds he was getting were very comparable to the sounds on their album. They were not. The band put forth a very good performance (it may have been one of their last) but sadly the representation that went onto the airwaves was not the way it sounded in the room as they played. John was particularly miffed because you couldn't even hear any of his backing vocals. "I wouldn't have even bothered to sing into the mic if I knew you weren't even go to hear it. What the hell was the point of that sound check?" he questioned. None the less the document exists and there's a couple standout tracks on in. Arguably the most important is this track, the only know recording of Vampirism. This was the second song written in what was proposed to be Feu's "Monsters" album. This concept album directly following the previous "Planets" concept album proved to be the death nell of the band. Luckily this exists as a document of some of their final works.
